Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept same day appointments or walk-in?

No. We are a by-appointment only business. Please fill out a New Client Intake Form to be placed on the schedule

What is your latest appointment of the day?

Typically, appointments are accepted as late at 6:00PM depending on the day of the week and availability

How old should my puppy be before he get his first groom?

It is recommend starting between 12-16 weeks of age to get them acclimated to the grooming process and start a good care routine. By this age it is also highly recommended the puppy have received at least two rounds of vaccines.

How old is too old to be groomed?

Assuming your pet is in good health, not in pain, and able to stand through the grooming process we do not have a maximum age for grooming. For the comfort of the pet, it is highly recommend to keep geriatric pets in a shorter, low maintenance style.

Is mobile grooming expensive?

While mobile grooming is priced higher than a standard brick-and-mortar salon, Vanity Fur Mobile Grooming is competitively priced. With your groom price you are receiving the convenience of not having to leave home, quicker groom times, and the comfort of knowing your pet is receiving one-on-one attention and care.

How often should I get my pet groomed?

Mobile grooming is best suited for maintenance grooming while seasonal grooming is better serviced in a salon setting. Vanity Fur Mobile Grooming requires pets to be on a recurring 2, 4, 6, or 8 week schedule.

Will my dog always have the same groomer?

YES! Paula is the sole pet stylist and has over a decade of experience. Every groom will include a consultation at beginning and completion of groom.

How long does it take and do I need to be home?

For the first visit we do require an adult to be present to facilitate introduction, provide grooming instructions and entry/return instructions. Existing clients can opt for complimentary latch key service but must have a credit card on file with credit card authorization form. Most grooms are completed in 1 – 3 hours, but can vary based on grooming needs.

Do you use cage dryers?

No, there are no cages within the van. To dry the dog we use a variable speed dryer. If a dog is scared of the dryer noise, we utilize Happy Hoodies and/or use a “fluff dry” setting. This may add some time to the groom time and would be discussed at that time.

Can I watch you groom?

We are happy to give a tour of the van before any groom, but due to liability, cannot allow anyone in the van while grooming. Additionally, a dog may become very excited to see their owner while grooming. An excited dog can be wiggly and hard to control/calm down. This can cause risk of injury to the pet if they cannot stay on the table or if they move while the groomer is handling sharp objects like scissors, clippers, etc. Unless it is an emergency, we enforce a strict NO KNOCK POLICY on the windows or doors.

My dog is matted, do I have to shave it?

It depends. As matts grow and tighten they can pull on the dogs skin causing pain and irritation. This also increases the risk of cutting the skin when using scissors or guard combs. De-matting is done by consultation only and is dependent on the severity of the matting and the pets age and temperament. We will never shave your pet without advising you first, but if a de-matt is not possible and you decline the shave/groom a consultation/trip fee will apply.

What if I don’t like the groom?

We stand behind every groom completed, if you don’t like something about the groom please notify Vanity Fur Mobile Grooming within 72 hours to discuss a solution.

Why does my dog shake and seem scared for grooming appointments?

Dogs can get anxious or excited for a variety of reasons, just like people. Similar to human kids getting dropped off for daycare/school they can be anxious or scared initially and then settle in once the parent is gone. Dogs are very attentive and will pick up on anxiety you are feeling so it is important to be calm for their grooming appointments. Since we come to your home, have a cage free environment, and offer shorter grooming times most dogs are more relaxed than when going to a typical salon environment.

Can I provide my own shampoo/conditioner?

Yes. we use professional, human-grade products specifically designed for pets. However, if you have a product line you prefer we are happy to oblige as long as it is designed and formulated for dogs and in its original, labeled container. We do not offer any discount for providing your own shampoo/conditioner.

Do you need to plug into my house or use my water?

Not typically. The van is equipped with a generator to power all of the electronics and has two large water tanks to hold clean water and dirty water. Typically it is not need to refill or empty either of the tanks on site, but occasionally we may need to top off.

What is your cancellation policy?

We are a by-appointment only business. Due to this we do require 48 hours notice of cancellations or a $50 fee per pet will apply. For repetitive cancellations, a non-refundable deposit due at booking may be applied.

What payment methods do you accept?

Debit or Credit Card are the preferred method of payment. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. Cash is accepted, but no change will be available.

Will you groom my dog if they are sedated or aggressive?

This varies. Aggressive dogs are not automatically disqualified from grooming services but use of a muzzle may be used. If a pet cannot be safely groomed without becoming overly stressed or risking serious injury to themselves or the groomer the groom may be declined or stopped. Pets that have been prescribed a mild sedative such as acepromazine by a licensed veterinarian are allowed. We do not perform full sedation grooms as these need to be closely monitored by a licensed veterinarian or technician. Prior disclosure is required if a pet is known to be aggressive or will be receiving medication prior to the groom. This will allow time to reach out to the veterinarian for a background on the pet as well as schedule appropriate time to allow for the groom.

Are your appointment times exact?

We strive to be on-time for each and every appointment. Due to the nature of the business, this is not always possible as an appointment may take longer than expected, road conditions/traffic can vary, mechanical issues, etc. We ask that you allow a one hour window for your appointment time. So if your appointment is at 1:00PM, your appointment window is 12:30PM-1:30PM. The groomer will always call or text to communicate any delays outside of the window. Please note, phone calls and text messages will not be answered while grooming or driving.

Does my dog need to be current on vaccinations?

It is highly recommended that your pet is up-to-date on bordatella, distemper, parvo, and rabies vaccinations. we utilize Best Shot 256-Disinfectant that kills most virus and bacteria in between each grooming appointment, however, vaccines are the best preventative from these ailments. In the state of Texas, rabies vaccination is required in all pets over 16-weeks of age. While Vanity Fur Mobile Grooming does not require proof prior to grooming appointments, if injury occurs to the groomer, proof of rabies is required by the state. If proof cannot be provided a 14-day quarantine may be required by the city at owner’s expense.
